The Miracles And Magic Of
Calendars And Timekeeping Devices
"If you want work well done, select a busy man - the other
kind has no time." -Elbert Hubbard
“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned.”
Did you know that the clock is one of the oldest calendars and timekeeping inventions?
If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. The first caveman probably enjoyed looking at the wondrous, abundantly clear starry nights and imagining possibilities of what could be...
Eventually, someone, in a fit of extreme boredom (or insatiable excitement), would have taken a small dinosaur bone to the cave wall and scratched in some sort of measurements... maybe something like...
"Been here 40 days now, very cold, gigantic creatures abound... HECK... What's that!!?..."
If only we could go back to those days... (perhaps just for a quick visit!)
Maybe those first cave wall scratches were the beginning of calendars and timekeeping devices...
From there, as we slowly evolved, we created sundials, candle (and water) clocks and even used an hourglass to measure and indicate an arbitrary period of time...
In 1840 Alexander Bain came to the rescue and patented the electric clock. His cool idea removed the need for winding, and, you guessed it... saved us even more time!
And now, you'll find timekeeping devices such as talking clocks, digital clocks, atomic clocks, and a thousand more... all created to help us manage our precious time better...
