It's really quite an incredibly simple process to make calendars.

Whether you want to create a photo calendar or wallpaper calendars, this story will give you an insight into the business of calendar making.

A few years back a young fellow set out to make a photo calendar for a local businessman.

His whole idea was sound, at least he thought at the time!

Taking photographs of the local town for his calendar, he searched high and low for the highest quality paper to print his calendar on.

After the businessman had given the OK with the photos and overall look, it was time for the printing phase.

The idea at the time was to print the calendar with an Epson Ink Jet printer that could easily manage large sizes, then bind it.

Well anyway, as the story goes... That beautiful paper didn't go easy through his color printer!

No-sir-ree. One little ink smudge in the wrong place ruined a delightful photo as quick as a wink. And boy do you burn through ink quick! (Paper wasn't cheap either).

Eventually though, he got the calendar done and presented it to the businessman. Who was eternally grateful.

What a relief. And a mighty fine job too. Except that...

It took 4 WEEKS for the young fella to get it done. Which probably works out to 10 cents an HOUR.

Anyway the moral of this story for anyone who wants to make calendars, is probably to get someone else to do it for you, or follow a guide if you do it yourself!

But anyway, to keep things simple, lets say there are two simple ways to make your own calendars right now.

The first is using BigHugeLabs.com. With them you have unlimited scope to make a calendar as long as you have the images available.

However that's a digital calendar you're getting - the kind of thing you can look at on your computer but need to print out.

The other way to get an actual (physical) calendar is by using Cafepress. These are the real deal. You have to pay for them though!

The way Cafepress works is that you sign up for free then add your photos, and mail the calendar to yourself or a friend (or put on eBay!)

Look on the Cafepress navigation bar for make your own and once you've clicked on that look for calendars from the list of customizable products.

From there you can make a calendar using these styles of calendars.

• Oversized wall calendars (about $22)
• Vertical wall calendars (about $20)
• Calendar print (about $8)

Choose a calendar style you like and go from there.

Here's a few calendars I created to give you an idea of how they look.

The calendar above was made using BigHugeLabs calendar tool while the one below was made with their wallpaper tool.

When you make your own calendars try to use the highest resolution as possible for your calendar. 300 PPI will be good, plus the image needs to be as wide (or wider) than the calendar is going to be.

So for example, BigHugeLabs let you create calendars in these sizes: letter (8.5x11), 8x10 or a CD Jewel Case calendar.

So if you want a calendar that is bigger than 8.5x11 (inches) then make sure to upload a photo that is bigger than 8.5x11 (and 300 ppi) too.

You can see there are options to create stand alone calendars or calendars for your desktop wallpaper. They give you different screen sizes to fit your computer screen or mobile phone.

For example, 1024x768, 1600x900 (wide), and iPhone or Mobile phone sizes too.

Make sure you upload a resolution to suit the size you pick or else you may end up with a pixelated calendar!
